THE SIEGE OF SKORA
Background Story
Just beyond the furthest outskirts of the Fenris System, a battle rages in the blackness of space just over the planet of Skora. Being the closest chapter to the vulnerable frontier world, the Space Wolves, charged as the protectorate of the planet, quickly moved in to intercept a Dark Eldar raider fleet. A Dark Eldar assault had been expected for some time and now the Space Wolves' predictions have proved accurate.
The Dark Eldar had been edging closer and closer to the Fenris System, preying on less protected Imperial worlds that were far enough away from viable reinforcements that they were able to strike and escape before aid could hope to save them. That is, of course, what drew them to Skora. The same fate would have surely befallen the low technology frontier world, had the Space Wolves not identified a Dark Eldar scouting craft some months before. The Space Wolves decided however not to attack the craft, but instead opted to let them continue to feel as they have been covert in their recon. Perhaps now that they knew their next target, they could be intercepted and destroyed in the void before making planet-fall. Scout teams were immediately dispatched to the planet in order to prepare the local governors for what may come and to bolster the limited planetary defense forces.
In the midst of the barrage between the fleet ships, a Dark Eldar cruiser was critically struck. To escape certain doom, a small lander craft jettisoned from the cruiser's hold. As it made its escape, the cruiser’s propulsion systems imploded, catching the lander in its massive blast. Unable to make it to another friendly craft, the lander prepared to make an emergency landing on the surface of Skora.
Meanwhile, on the planet’s surface one of a few dozen Space Wolves scouting parties, led by a revered Wold Lord known as "The Lord Wolf", was preparing to make camp some ways away from the capital city of one of Skora's largest kingdoms, the city of Frem. It was then that they saw the damaged Dark Eldar craft burn through the skies and thunder into the planet’s surface a few miles off in the distance.
The survivors of the crash, protected by the reinforced transport pod, crawled from the wreckage and collected any serviceable gear they could muster. The first on the ground, they set to carry out any objectives that made themselves available in anticipation of their allied raiding parties.
The Siege of Skora was underway.
